Morgellons Education

What is Morgellons?

Morgellons has a long history of confusing symptoms and controversial opinions. Because this condition manifests so extremely differently in people, it has been very hard for the traditional medical community to quantify, to design effective treatments for, or even to accept its existence. Creating a concise definition eludes us even today.

We know that Morgellons is primarily experienced in the skin, but it can also affect so much more of a person's body, physical ability to function, and mental well-being. Being very ill has both physical and psychological effects on people. These effects are compounded when the cause of the illness is unknown or hard to pin down, when effective or affordable treatment seems almost impossible to find, or when the illness is controversial/difficult for that person's support network or practitioners to accept.

For all of these reasons, Morgellons has long been an extremely difficult disease to define, to have and to heal. It is our hope that the education and resources on this website help both to support those dealing with Morgellons and to unite people, professionals, organizations, and research worldwide to provide quantum leaps forward in both understanding and treating Morgellons.

Have others Recovered from Morgellons?

Despite the confusion and controversy surrounding Morgellons and the extreme differences in the way that this disease presents in various patients, people have recovered. They have cleared their bodies, no longer having symptoms, and they have gone on to live normal lives again. There are professionals and resources that can and do help.

After Thriving You's founder experienced her own recovery, she made a heartfelt commitment to help others navigate their journey as well. This promise continues to guide us. Supporting and empowering those seeking clarity, relief, and renewal isn’t just our work—it’s our passion and our mission.

Frequently asked Questions

Why are my symptoms different from others?

At Thriving You, we recognize that every individual is uniquely designed—much like a fingerprint. No two people are exactly alike in their bodies, their healing process, or their ability to detox. Each person has their own genetic makeup, body chemistry, and way of processing food, responding to the environment, and managing daily toxin exposure. Because of these differences, detoxing from Morgellons can look and feel very different from one person to another.

What are the First Steps to get help?

The first step is to take a close look at your individual symptoms and work with a trusted healthcare provider who can offer guidance and appropriate testing. For many people who have Morgellons, simply finding a professional they feel confident in has been one of the greatest challenges. Because detoxification and healing needs vary widely from person to person, the approach that works for one individual may look very different for another.

That’s why we created this organization and this website—to offer support, clarity, and a starting point. Please explore the educational materials and resources provided here as a way to begin or continue your research, so you can choose the options that best fit your unique journey.

Will Insurance Cover Treatments?

In most cases, the answer is no. Because the Morgellons condition is not formally recognized by the CDC and is still not fully understood within the broader medical community, insurance companies will not cover treatments specifically for it. However, some plans may provide coverage for certain therapies when they are billed under related or general health concerns.

To help bridge this gap, we are bringing together professionals who can offer education to both practitioners and those navigating the Morgellons condition. Our goal is to support greater understanding, encourage progress, and ultimately help make access to effective care easier for everyone.

A person’s blood type, genetics, and how their body processes and breaks down food are all important factors to consider. We’re each unique and need different things at different times. That said, many people benefit from eating fewer processed foods, choosing whole, fresh options, and staying well-hydrated. Use the resources on this website and continue your own research to find a qualified professional who will dig deeper and help you get the answers you need.

Why does the CDC not recognize Morgellons?

How can someone support Thriving You's work?

Morgellons seems to be a condition with such a wide variety of symptoms and such a unique expression in each person that it has been very difficult for traditional medicine practitioners and organizations to qualify it and learn to treat it reliably. Even those closest to someone struggling with Morgellons may have a hard time accepting and understanding it. The CDC has had difficulty recognizing Morgellons or creating medical recommendations to help because the people who have Morgellons have a wide array of differing symptoms. Testing has also been complex, making it difficult to connect the diverse symptoms people report. As a result, creating standardized recommendations has proven challenging up to this point.

Do you have to have Lyme disease to have Morgellons?

Do you have to have Lyme disease to have Morgellons?

No, not everyone who has Morgellons has Lyme disease, and vice versa. Various studies have put the incidence of those with Lyme also developing Morgellons to be only about 6%, while up to 98% of those studied with Morgellons have been shown to also have various kinds of Borrelia spirochetes that are present in Lyme disease, according to ILADS member Dr Raphael B Stricker. ILADS is the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society, one of many organizations doing work in this field. While much more research needs to be done, here is the article referenced for this answer: https://www.contagionlive.com/view/morgellons-found-to-be-closely-linked-with-lyme-disease

Are Collembola & Springtails the same?

Do Fungus and Heavy Metals play a factor in developing Morgellons?

Are Collembola & Springtails the same?

Yes, to put it simply, they are two names for the same parasite, and this parasite can be attracted to fungus and bacteria such as  Staphylococcus. It is very rare to find Collembola on human bodies. There are 9400 studied and published species of Collembola worldwide, and the species is even among the oldest known fossils of terrestrial animals on Earth. Usually, they aid nutrient cycling in the soil and help form healthy soil microstructure. The problems with Collembola and humans with Morgellons seem to revolve around the human body being overwhelmed with toxins, fungus, or bacteria, which in rare cases could attract Collembola.

Is Morgellons Contagious?

Do Fungus and Heavy Metals play a factor in developing Morgellons?

Are Collembola & Springtails the same?

The verdict is still out on this question, as it has been known to be experienced by multiple family members in a household in some cases, and in others, even the closest members of a family do not exhibit Morgellons when another member has it. More research needs to be done to find out why certain people develop Morgellons and others do not. We at Thriving You would love to see research done on genetic mutations and any possible effect they could potentially have on developing Morgellons. With research, we may learn whether having a strong immune system, a strong physical ability to detoxify, or a good genetic makeup resists the development of Morgellons. We have so many questions and only so many answers as yet.

Do Fungus and Heavy Metals play a factor in developing Morgellons?

Do Fungus and Heavy Metals play a factor in developing Morgellons?

Do Fungus and Heavy Metals play a factor in developing Morgellons?

We can answer this question best only from experience. The Thriving You founder spent many years researching during her struggle with Morgellons and was lucky to be connected to resources that could medically document her journey. She was officially tested and diagnosed with off-the-charts levels of heavy metals, which then fed the fungus she was exposed to and led to her also being documented with Collembola. When her practitioners were able to detox her heavy metals and fungus, her Morgellons symptoms cleared. One thing to note is that fungus likes to feed off of heavy metals. If a person has a large amount of heavy metal in their body and is then exposed to fungus, then the fungus may have food to excessively multiply. Both heavy metal toxicity and fungal overgrowth cause a host of well-known and documented health concerns, some of which are known to be symptoms of Morgellons.

Do Fungus and Heavy Metals play a factor in developing Morgellons?

Start with a doctor, preferably one experienced in environmental medicine or toxicology. Not all tests are appropriate for every situation. Heavy metal exposure can come from the environment, food, water, air, soil, products etc. Doctors and dentists have started collaborating to educate each other about potential exposure risks, including those related to dental work.

Clinical evaluation: A healthcare provider will review symptoms, medical history, and potential exposure.

  • Professional mold inspection: Certified mold inspectors can test air quality, surfaces, and hidden areas for mold spores and mycotoxins.
  • DIY kits: At-home kits can measure mold in the air or on surfaces, but results may be less accurate than professional testing.
  • Blood tests: Can check for immune responses to mold (IgG or IgE antibodies).
    • Urine mycotoxin tests: Detect certain mycotoxins that may indicate exposure.
    • Nasal swabs or tissue samples: Sometimes used in research settings.

How do I get tested for Heavy Metals?

Your healthcare provider will recommend the most accurate test based on the metal of concern and your exposure history.

  • Blood tests: Detect recent or ongoing exposure to metals such as lead, mercury, or arsenic.
  • Urine tests: Often done after a chelation challenge to reveal metals stored in tissues.
  • Hair analysis: Can show long-term exposure to certain metals, though results may vary.
  • Other tests: Some specialized labs may offer stool or tissue testing for specific metals.

Results should be reviewed by a qualified healthcare professional. They can provide context about normal ranges, potential health impacts, and options for reducing or removing exposure.

If I can't afford some detox treatments are there other ways to detox toxins without a heavy cost?

Hyperbaric chamber treatments can be highly effective in addressing mold in the body. However, not all hyperbaric care is the same, and it’s important to review the educational resources on this site before pursuing treatment. For individuals with significant illness, special precautions and careful protocols are necessary to safely and gently use this powerful therapy. Hyperbaric treatments are often most effective when used in combination with supportive therapies, such as zeolite and fulvic acid supplements, QZone IVs, QZone and infrared saunas, PEMF devices, mineral salt baths, foot baths, and chlorella. These complementary approaches can help the body safely eliminate the mold that is mobilized and addressed during hyperbaric therapy.

  • Healthy diet: Focus on whole, unprocessed foods and hydration.
  • Liver and kidney support: Your provider may suggest ways to support natural detoxification pathways.
  • Supplements: Only take under professional guidance; some may support immune function or toxin elimination.
  • In some cases, practitioners may use binding agents (like activated charcoal or cholestyramine) to help the body remove mycotoxins.
  • Anti-inflammatory or immune-modulating therapies may be recommended based on symptoms.

There are several products on the market that are both effective and budget-friendly.

* Zeolite (Clinoptilolite)- A micronized clinoptilolite zeolite powder that is frequently promoted as a binder for heavy metals

  • Chlorella -A green algae supplement that is well-known for its ability to bind to certain heavy metals and support detox
  • Cilantro extract or tincture is often used together with chlorella to mobilize heavy metals from tissues
  • Modified Citrus Pectin (MCP) - A type of pectin derived from citrus fruits that can bind to metals and support their excretion.
  • N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC)

Supports production of glutathione, a key antioxidant, which in turn helps detox metals.

* Alpha-Lipoic Acid (ALA)

An antioxidant that is also known to have chelating properties, especially for certain metals like mercury.

*Fulvic / Humic Acids

These are natural organic acids often used in detox products for their ability to chelate (bind) metals.

What is Glutathione!

Glutathione is your body’s master antioxidant, helping to protect cells from damage, support immune health, and aid in detoxifying harmful substances. Naturally produced in the body, it plays a vital role in keeping your liver, cells, and overall system healthy. Supporting glutathione levels—through nutrition, lifestyle, or targeted therapies—can help your body stay resilient and balanced.

  • Some people take oral supplements or precursors like N-acetylcysteine (NAC).
  • IV Glutathione is used in certain medical and wellness settings for faster absorption.
  • Lifestyle factors like good nutrition, sleep, and exercise support natural glutathione production.
